The Smart Pill Bottle is a unique solution that leverages Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to accurately sense dosage intake by patients. Unlike other adherence tools that require complicated new workflows and setup, the Smart Pill Bottle works right out of the box with zero setup and nothing new for patients to learn. This makes it incredibly user-friendly and ensures a seamless integration into patients' existing routines.
One of the key strengths of the Smart Pill Bottle is its ability to provide visual and audible alerts to remind patients to take their medication. Built-in sensors detect when a patient accesses their medication, and feedback is sent via a cellular network for real-time analysis. If the data indicates a missed dose, customizable reminders are sent to the patient and/or caregiver(s). This eliminates the risk of overdosing or missed treatments and allows caregivers to track and ensure patient adherence more effectively.
The design of the Smart Pill Bottle reflects the needs of the user, particularly patients with severe illnesses who prefer a subtle and reliable solution. It has undergone rigorous testing to ensure its reliability and ability to function in extreme environments. The manufacturing process is also optimized, with minimal parts needed for assembly, ease of assembly, self-aligning abilities, and regulatory-compliant materials.
Technical specifications of the Smart Pill Bottle include dimensions of 60.2mm wide by 60.2mm deep by 106.0mm high for the bottle and 60.2mm in diameter by 17.7mm high for the cap. The bottle with the cap measures 60.2mm wide by 60.2mm deep by 111.1mm high.
The AdhereTech Smart Pill Bottle was developed by a team of talented individuals, including Mike Morena, John Langhauser, Josh Stein, Joseph Toro, Bob Kowalski, C. Sven Johnson, Doreen Swift, Mark Dryzmala, Brent McGaugh, Sivaram Kanthasamy, Craig Brekne, Julian Ong, Michael Yackavage, and Joseph Savelli.
This innovative design project started in January 2014 and was completed in September 2015 in New York. Extensive research and user experience studies were conducted to ensure appropriate interaction for all users. The appearance of the Smart Pill Bottle was carefully designed to be sufficiently mundane, resembling a common pill bottle while fitting seamlessly into traditional storage spaces.
The AdhereTech Smart Pill Bottle has received recognition for its excellence in design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design category in 2017. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Smart Pill Bottle's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and contribution to a better world have earned it this esteemed accolade.
